Description

EC3's industrial maintenance welding program offers an introduction to welding that provides a basic understanding of welding safety, math, metallurgy, tools, and print reading. The course will introduce the different types of weld processes, including:

  • Shielded Metal Arc Welding "Stick"
  • Flux Core Arc Welding "Dual or Inner Shield"
  • Gas Metal Arc Welding "Mig"
  • Gas Tungsten Arc Welding "Tig"
  • SMAW or "stick" welding

No welding background is required.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this 40-hour program, students will be able to:

  • Read and interpret basic blueprints.
  • Apply basic math in a shop/fabrication setting.
  • Identify equipment and safety procedures related to equipment, processes, and materials used in the major welding processes of Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW).
  • Weld using the SMAW process on steel to the standards of the American Welding Society (AWS).
