Position Summary

EC3 seeks to hire a full-time welding faculty member possessing a commitment to entrepreneurial thinking, creativity and a strong foundation to the community college mission.

 

Erie County Community College places a high priority on providing outstanding learning opportunities for the community and promoting an effective learning environment for students. Faculty also provide critical assistance to the College in supporting and implementing college policies and procedures. Faculty members are expected to meet all responsibilities with integrity and in accordance with all applicable federal, state, and local statutes and in accordance with the College's policies, procedures, and regulations.

 

The usual faculty load is equivalent to a total of 30 credit hours annually. Faculty may be assigned other work in addition to their teaching assignment to meet College needs. Faculty also play an integral role in supporting students as academic advisors and mentor students through connections outside of the classroom and, when necessary, referring them to college resources that support students both academically and socially.

 

This is a temporary grant-funded position that will end on June 30, 2027.

 

Base Annual Salary Range: $50,000 - $55,000

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct assigned classes and/or labs
  • Prepare lessons that align with course and program outcomes
  • Provide course syllabus utilizing the master syllabus format provided by the College
  • Verify student enrollment and submit grade sheets
  • Utilize online Learning Management Software to enhance and support instruction
  • Assist the lead faculty in the selection, review and development of course materials and resources that minimize student financial impact
  • Provide guided support in open and scheduled lab setting
  • Keep accurate record of student performance
  • Provide students with regular and timely feedback
  • Engage with students outside of class to encourage continued academic growth
  • Provide advising support to students within the program
  • Be available to provide program information to prospective, current and former students
  • Assist students with workforce and career planning
  • Refer students to on-campus student support services as necessary
  • Accommodate the unique needs of all students
  • Maintain regular availability for student inquiry and discussion
  • Maintain academic and student records as required by the institution and comply with requirements for reports and meeting deadlines as established
  • Assist the lead faculty in program review and assessment activities utilizing outcomes assessment to improve learning/instruction
  • Participate in committees, extra and co-curricular activities
  • Participate in faculty and self-evaluation processes, including continuous improvement efforts
  • Complete training required to perform effectively and remain current with academic and industry trends
  • Attend faculty and college meetings
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff
  • Demonstrate responsible and proper use of college resources
  • Perform professional responsibilities in accordance with the goals, missions, and plans of the department, program, division, and College, in addition to contributing to the creation of a collegial culture
  • Assist in assessing equipment and supplies, scheduling classes, and departmental routines
  • Consult with advisory committees and industry partners
  • Assist with the preparation and maintenance of the lab and materials; teach and enforce lab safety procedures
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned
  • Evening hours may be required for this position

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience in welding industry and knowledge of industry-related equipment and systems
  • Expert knowledge in welding and excellent communication skills
  • Must be able to instruct welding safety, theory, and practical hands-on demonstrations in SMAW, GMAW, GTAW in all welding positions and joint configurations
  • Strong knowledge in the metallurgical understanding of mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum
  • Must be current AWS (American Welding Society) certified welder or willing to attend training in order to acquire relevant AWS certifications
  • Possess considerable skill to operate fabrication equipment such as band saws, shears, drill press, brakes, belt sanders and various grinding equipment.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience as an AWS Certified Welding Inspector
  • Associate Degree
  • Experience teaching in an education setting
  • Experience with Blackboard or similar online Learning Management System
  • Experience uniquely supporting every learner in the educational environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move items: up to 10 pounds constantly, 30 lbs. frequently, and up to 50 lbs. occasionally. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, ability to adjust focus, and arm's length vision acuity.

The work environment is loud and environmental conditions include hazards, vibrations and fumes or airborne particles.
