EC3 RECEIVES APPROVAL TO OFFER PRACTICAL NURSING (PN) PROGRAM BY THE PA STATE BOARD OF NURSING
Erie, PA – March 2, 2026. Erie County Community College (EC3) is proud to announce that the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing has voted and approved the offering of a Practical Nursing (PN) certificate program at the college. This new 12-month program is slated to start in August 2026, with a cohort of 22 students.
"The approval of our practical nursing certificate program represents months of planning, collaboration, and determination. It demonstrates our commitment to aligning academic programs with workforce needs while ensuring our graduates are prepared for meaningful, in-demand careers," said Chris Gray, Ph.D., Founding President of EC3.
"For many aspiring nurses, this program opens doors that previously required them to leave the area or delay their dreams. Now, students can pursue a high-demand career right here at home, with the support and affordability EC3 is known for," said Bailey Shafer, Director of Allied Health Programs.
Students that successfully complete this program will receive a practical nursing certificate, opening the door to becoming a licensed practical nurse (LPN). Further information will be coming out soon on the application process for prospective students.
