Erie, PA – Erie County Community College (EC3) has taken a significant step forward in its journey toward accreditation. The administration proudly announces that EC3 has been awarded Candidacy status by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), the accrediting body overseeing higher education institutions across the region.
Watch the President of EC3, Dr. Chris Gray, share more about this milestone here.
Candidacy status is a pivotal moment in EC3's institutional development, signaling that the college is on track toward full accreditation. This milestone underscores EC3's commitment to maintaining rigorous academic standards and aligns the college with the policies and processes established by MSCHE.
With Candidacy status in place, EC3 will now advance its application to participate in Title IV federal student aid programs, which will enable students to access financial aid through grants and scholarships. The college will also pursue approval to join Pennsylvania's state aid program, further supporting students as they consider EC3 for their educational aspirations.
EC3 has also worked diligently to establish articulation agreements with regional universities such as Gannon University, Mercyhurst University, Penn West University, and the Penn State University system. These partnerships allow EC3 graduates to transfer seamlessly, receive academic credit, and often achieve junior standing upon transfer. Candidacy status is expected to expand these opportunities, opening doors to additional program-specific agreements with institutions in Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio, and beyond.
"This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our faculty, staff, and students," said President of EC3, Dr. Chris Gray. "It also highlights EC3's role as a cornerstone for accessible, high-quality education in Erie County and beyond."
