Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW) Description

This micro credential program provides comprehensive training in the safe and effective use of the Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW) process, focusing on both self-shielded and gas-shielded flux core techniques. Students will be introduced to the skills necessary to perform high-quality welds on ferrous and non-ferrous metals, welding safety, electrode selection, machine set-up, shielded gas usage, welding positions and techniques, joint preparation and fit-up, and troubleshooting and inspection techniques. Students will get practical application working on butt welds, lap welds, T-joints, and fillet welds.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand and apply welding safety practices, ensuring safe use of FCAW equipment and materials.
  • Select the appropriate flux core wire and shielding gas for different materials and welding applications.
  • Execute high-quality welds in various positions, with proper joint preparation and fit-up.
  • Troubleshoot and correct common welding defects to ensure strong, durable welds.
  • Gain foundational knowledge and hands-on experience to pursue professional welding certifications and a successful career in welding.
